We should therefore follow the Sunnah (Sayings & Footsteps) of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) concerning such folks who have been converted from other religions to Islam.
Recognition of Newcomers’ Talents
Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by no means compromised on benefit and decided on people based totally upon their talents and merits. He kept this policy in the case of new Muslims as well and in no way judged the individual’s ability based upon his tenure as a Muslim. For example, Hazrat Khalid-bin-Waleed (RA) embraced Islam being an identified famous Army Commander before accepting Islam. Therefore, after his Shahada as a Muslim, Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) made him Commander Muslim Military. In this way, He led the Army in Ghazwa-e-Tabook. Similarly, Hazrat Umar (RA) got acknowledged by the Messenger of God (PBUH) which turned him into one of the most outstanding leaders of Islam because of his immense courage, thoughtfulness and unmatchable character.
Giving Special Attention
New Muslims were given a unique and special attention by the Holy Prophet (PBUH). They had been welcomed by love and affection. He always listened to their queries as well as helped them. The most outstanding instance in this regard is associated with Hazrat Amr ibn Al-Aas. According to him, the affection of Holy Prophet (PBUH) made me believing that I may be the most cherished and loved accomplice of Him among other companions of Messenger of God (PBUH).
Undertaking of Dawat ‘O’ Tableegh
The Holy Prophet (PBUH) ordered some of the companions to spread Islam in a proper way once they became Believers. However, there were a few companions who went under Dawah Training before preaching Islam. In this way, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) made it positive that the new Muslims had been nicely guided before they preach Islam to different people. Moreover, they were also guided by the other companions (Sihaba). For instance, Hazrat At-Tufail ibn `Amr Ad-Dawsi’s (RA) usual technique of preaching the religion did not proved to be effective. He (RA) had a hard style of Dawah wherein he (RA) used to prevent speaking to the individuals who refused his Dawah. So, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) recommended him saying that:
“Go back to your People, call them to Allah and be lenient with them”. (Ibn Ishaq)
Step by Step Change in Behavior
New Muslims during the time of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) demanded many relaxations. Therefore, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) by using His wisdom accepted number of their needs. The motive behind this was that after accepting Islam they will truly follow the genuine steerage. For example, the tribe of Thaqif embraced Islam however refuse to pay charity and take part in Jihad. Similarly, the system of slavery was got abolished with the passage of time through Step by Step procedure. However, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) never customized the religious teachings for them rather He (PBUH) considered it as an introductory step for embracing Islam.
So, it is our ethical responsibility as a Muslim to welcome the New Muslims with extra love affection. Allah SWT has defined this in the Quran by addressing the Holy Prophet (PBUH):
“And in case you were impolite [in speech] and harsh in heart, they could have disbanded from about you”.
