Ijazah

Ijazah (Arabic: إِجَازَة) or Sanad, which means ``permission,`` ``authorization,`` or ``license,`` is the certification of the recitation and memorization of the Quran with proper Tajweed (rules of Quranic pronunciation).

Types of Ijazah Certification

Quranic Ijazah

This is an accredited Quran certificate issued by a teacher or a Sheikh who already holds the Ijazah. There are two types:

Quran Recitation with Tajweed and Tarteel rules Ijazah

It is divided into four subtypes depending upon the different Qiraat expertise: one Qiraat, seven Qira’at of ash-Shatibiyyah, three Qira’at of Durrat Al-Maa’ni, and 10 Qira’at of Tayyibat An-Nashr. A student qualifies after reciting the Quran with Tajweed without any mistake before an Ijazah-certified Sheikh or a Quran Teacher.

Quran Memorization or Hifz Quran Ijazah

Students who memorize the entire Quran.

Hadith Ijazah

Permission to transmit specific collections of Hadith (Muhammad SAW sayings and ac), along with their meticulously documented chains of transmission (Isnad). This certification is given after remembering and accurately referring to the source of the Muhammad SAW sayings or actions.

Ijazah in other fields

Its authorization covers diverse disciplines such as jurisprudence (Fiqa), Qur’anic interpretation (tafsir), and Islamic beliefs (Aqeedah). The certification allows the holder to give a final verdict on matters related to Islamic beliefs, interpretation of Holy Quran verses, and other general issues with reference to the Quran and Hadith.
